Ahoy, matey!

This is an email that royally strut into your inbox. Like a king. This, matey, is the 100th Weekly Email Blast. The king of kings. The WrestleMania of emails. My gamble on socializing that today is a hundred strong.

Emails still sound pretty formal, but I’ve gotten used to them. The Weekly Email Blast is a habit now. It’s how I know weekend is around. This social panda has enjoyed keeping in touch with people in the old school way. You could even say it has been a blast.

While lameo mountain bears have been busy figuring out the latest social networking website, this cool social panda has mastered the art of non intrusive, pleasant communication. A hand crafted email that shows up in your inbox every week, affirming my existence and my awesomeness. The Weekly Email Blast, like fine wine, has gotten better with age. Wow that sentence sounds so pretentious.

There’s not a lot of rules when it comes to the WEB. I insist on having good grammar and right punctuation while writing, that’s about it. Oh and I don’t rhyme. Rhyming ruins emails. Look, life comes at you fast. To slow that down, I created a Weekly Email Blast. Dammit I tried not to rhyme. Shit, maybe just this one time.

So that was that, mate. The email that got me to a WEB century. I’m gonna continue separating social bamboo shoots and social bamboo roots, once a week, in your inbox.

Tis, mate, was the Weekly Email Blast, Email 100. Happy Weekend !!!

Hey there !!!

This is the last email blast you’ll receive that has a two digit number. The 99th WEB, one away from a glorious century.

It has been a pretty eventful week for me. Monday I got my HSC hall ticket, so I guess I’ll have to give the State tests after all. But my seat number ends in 69 and my centre is Elphinstone college, so I’m happy. I loved the Archives there, and the college is by CSMVS museum and Jehangir art gallery. So I’m hoping all those good vibes help. Also there’s a little Café called Chikita Café nearby that I love. Wow I’m excited for everything except the Tests themselves.

Kala Ghoda has been nice. I think it’s like shrinking every passing year, but it’s still fun. I met Rohan Joshi on the train on Monday, which was also nice. He was cool. So many nice things, it’s almost like it isn’t exam season.Today was my last day of Junior college. I gave my board orals and that was it. End of an era. Short era, but era. Now I just need to ace my State Tests, get a BMM seat at my college, get an awesome job, become a billionaire and rule this world. The last one’s pretty out there, but fingers crossed.

You know Best Day of my Life, the American Authors’ song from the Pixel ad, well that’s stuck in my head. Which, you guessed it, is nice.

Tis, mate was the Weekly Email Blast, email 99. One away from the big hoopla. Happy weekend !!!

What’s Up, mate?

I’ll answer that silly question for you. Up is an amazing movie. It’s lovely. I was just watching it today. Dug the dog is my favorite character from the movie.

That’s Dug. He hides under your porch because he loves you.

Speaking of love, it’s February. A month that reeks of that stuff. Red anatomically incorrect hearts, flowers and chocolates. St.Valentine would’ve never imagined that humans today would use love as a mascot to mint money. But it’s a pretty hateful world out there, so sure, let’s buy flowers and chocolates. Anything that gets the economy going.

In better news, I was on TV this past Saturday! On NDTV, specifically, discussing the upcoming BMC polls. I was on ‘For and Against’, seated stoically as politicians rambled on and then the host asked me a question, I answered, and more importantly, I was on TV!On TV in all my nervous glory. Also, NDTV’s Mumbai HQ at IndiaBulls Center is awesome. Mail back if you want a link to show. I don’t like self advertising.

The Royal Rumble was kickass, Trump’s a dumbass, the Kala Ghoda Arts festival starts tomorrow, and I’m one Email away from my WEB century.

Woo-hoo!

Tis, mate, was the Weekly Email Blast, email 98. Happy Weekend !!!

Salute, mate!

It’s the day after Republic Day, which in this case also happens to be the day after Thursday. Isn’t that a useless fact.

There were no newspapers today morning. Which is kinda ironic, because the fourth pillar of Democracy took a day off to celebrate democracy. I did watch the parade yesterday, which was nice except for the fact that it didn’t have a service dogs’ contingent. They had a dog squadron marching down Raj Path last year. They didn’t have one this year, which was very disappointing. Unlike dogs, which remain awesome, eternally.

I’m on study leave because my State tests begin in a month. But I’ve been doing everything except studying lately. I’m a night owl, more productive at night (and also very wise, like an owl. Hoot!). I intend to study every night, but I almost never do. I study well at the last minute, not so much at the last month. My so called ‘study time’ of 11-1 is mostly spent procrastinating. Three cheers to indolence!

You know how last week, an annoying Shaggy song was stuck in my head. Now it’s gone, and Happy Together by the Turtles was happy to take its place, but I do not mind that song at all.

I’m just 2 emails away from WEB 100, which is kinda exciting. 17th February 2017, here I come.

Tis, mate, was the Weekly Email Blast, email 97. Happy weekend !!!

Hola, mate !!!

There’s not a lot on my mind today. I got a couple prelim results, which were nice but they just reaffirm the fact that I’m a nerd. Regardless, good test scores do make your day.

Even when there’s not a lot on my mind, there’s a song stuck to(?) my mind. Boombastic by Shaggy has been playing in my head at random times for two weeks now. Boombastic is not exactly a good song, but you can’t control songs stuck in your head. The song’s stupid lyrics were messing with answers I wrote during my economics test. I don’t even have the song on my phone. I heard it on Fresh off the Boat once, and annoyance ensued.

College has mellowed down to being exactly like how school was after prelims. Slow and boring. After my school prelims, I’d listen to music, largely comprised of songs from PRISM and 1989. After my 10th Grade State tests, I just wouldn’t listen to those two albums. In fact, I’m pretty sure I never hit play on most of my playlists from 2014/15 for a couple years. Until recently, when my brain wanted to listen to the same playlists outta nowhere. Some sort of weird proactive interference. They’re not all great songs, but I guess a part of me is sees symmetry between grades 10 and 12.

This got very meh.

Trump is the President of the US now but I’ll just leave it there, this email is too sad already.

Cheerio.

Tis, mate, was the Weekly Email Blast, email 96. Happy weekend !!!

Woof, matey.

Just woof. I just finished writing my second last prelim. Wrote all three hours of it. And I got about four hours of sleep last night, so you could say I’m exhausted. But a lot happened this week, including Obama’s Farewell speech. Which was very good.

#BoForPresident

I liked Obama’s farewell address. It was curt, but humble and moving. A lot like his two terms as President. His last speech as President was iconic, as was his inaugural speech. Yes he did. Well mostly.

But this thing that intrigues me more is the thing who moves into the White House next. Donald Trump. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass what people think about him. Except if it’s bad. Then you’re on his radar. Trump has had a few controversies, and by few I mean like hundreds. He’s inclined towards supporting Russia, probably because Russian hackers have a few books’ worth of dirt on him. You can’t tell if he’s pretending to be stupid or he really is a dumbass. America is in for a ride.

Enough about that. Here’s something that made me really happy this week.

Penguins dating. I don’t know, the penguins at Byculla zoo getting along made my week. I want this whole thing to be a reality show. I’d watch that.

My last prelim, English is tomorrow. Which means I don’t have to study anything today. I just wanna get home and sleep.

I’m gonna end this sleep deprived string of words now.

Cheers.

Happy New Year, matey!

Say hello to the first Weekly Email Blast of 2017. 2017 is a prime number. 1 and 2017 are it’s only divisors. 2016 had 36 divisors. And 53 Fridays. 2017 will have 52 Fridays. So in terms of number facts, 2016 was better.

I feel awfully boring today. Maybe because I’ve been studying for my Economics prelim tomorrow. You know, Arts students have it easy. The subjects we get to pick are easy and mostly interesting. Sadly, economics is a compulsory subject for us. There’s no running away from it. I like economics in general ’cause it has something to do with money. But the economics in my textbook is lame. Also, impractical.

I get why we should learn about demand, supply, markets, commercial and central banking but I don’t get why we have to learn about 1936 laws on propensity to consume and propensity to save among other stale concepts. Economics should keep up with the changing world, not cling on to what a now dead guy said before my grandparents were born. Also, would it hurt to sneak in a chapter on taxes? We’ll all have to deal with taxes no matter what we do in life, might as well teach us before we’re adults.

End rant.

I’ve also been awfully sleepy lately. Partly because the weather’s nice, partly because I’m supposed to study. I have a prelim every other day next week. It’s a shame I have to spend the last few weeks of this pleasant pseudo-winter studying. I could spend this cool weather napping or reading or drinking coffee, but I instead I’m stuck reading textbooks and drinking coffee to keep me from falling asleep. Ah, January.

I’ll get back to studying determinants of Aggregates now.

Bye!

Tis, mate, was Weekly Email Blast, email 94. Happy weekend !!!

Happy New Year’s Eve eve, matey!

Aka 2017 is only two days away, aka the end of this year. This year of the Gregorian calendar. Which means 2016 is almost over, which means this is the last Weekly Email Blast of 2016.

For many people, 2016 as a year has mostly been not good. The internet would definitely agree with that. Lots of not good things did happen this year: the war in Syria got worse, Britain left the EU, Trump was elected President of the US among other not great things. The last two vary depending on which side of the argument you were, but 2016: mostly not good.         Several gifted famous people died, ₹500 & 1000 notes died, and other things that will bum you out. But if you ask me, the year wasn’t all garbage. I’d say 2016 was alright. Now, put down your pitchforks, and hear me out.

The Paris Climate agreement was signed, Leo DiCaprio won an Oscar, India did alright at the Olympics, Tigers and Pandas are no longer endangered. See? Even Pandas are gettin’ some. Humpback whales? Not endangered. AJ Styles became the WWE champion, Goldberg returned, there were some great movies and TV shows. There was a new Harry Potter and a new Wimpy Kid book. Both were meh, but they were there.

This was another superb year for me too. I realised socialising can be nice, travelled a lot, read a lot, met Jeff Kinney, met more dogs, petted more dogs, and had a blast in general. I also sent 53 Weekly Email Blasts this year. Swig of beer to that.

I’ll be up tomorrow night watching 2016 die. It’s a change of date, that might ring in a better year. So here’s to a lit 2017.

Cheers. Tis, mate was the Weekly Email Blast, email 93. The last one this year. Happy holidays !!!

Merry Christmas, matey!

It’s Christmas weekend, the most wonderful time of the year, and the official season to be jolly. How’s that for a Christmassy start?

That’s just one of the 50 odd 15 foot high shelves (racks?) that I saw today. This is where they find stuff to write in history textbooks, novels, newspapers and magazines; and where they find facts for any fictional work, books, TV shows, movies or otherwise. To me, it was plain fascinating. They even let me restore an 1863 letter from the Archbishop of Bombay to Queen Victoria. It was an early Christmas present for me.

Then I had to go back to college to get a picture taken with the principal just because I’m a CR, and then sat through a 4 hour long ‘Achiever’s Nite’ because I’m a nerd who has the third highest score in his grade. But they gave me 2000 bucks with the certificate, so I’m happy.

Back to Christmas banter. I’m not big on Christmas traditions, except for having too many desserts and watching Home Alone 1&2, and Jingle All The Way. Well maybe one or two of those. I also listen to the song Jingle Bell Rock way too often around Christmas. I would love to wake up to snow on Sunday morning, which is nearly impossible but weather can be unpredictable, so fingers crossed.

My phone’s running out of juice now, so Merry Christmas mate, wear your Santa hats, play with your Christmas presents, and be jolly in general. Soak in the Yuletide spirit.

Tis, mate was the Weekly Email Blast, email 92. Happy holidays !!!

 It’s Mario Time!

Go play Super Mario Run. Just do. It’s amazing. I loved it. It’s mostly nostalgia fun (I’m old, remember?) but it’s fun nevertheless. Then you realise it won’t work offline and that boss battles are sucky. But hurray! Nostalgia for when you’re not old enough to be nostalgic!

In other news, it’s just 9 days to Christmas. I’m done with my prelim orals, and my prelims begin January 3rd. So I don’t have a lot on my plate as of now. I’m supposed to study, but as a procrastinator extraordinaire, I can’t.  My brain says economics but my heart says Super Mario Run. That’s what the organ conversation has been this afternoon.

I find that things slow down considerably around December of an academic year that ends with State Tests. December of 10th or 12th grade is like the slow upward roll of a roller coaster. January is the sudden steep high speed fall. And New Year’s Eve is that awkward moment you’re dang in the middle of both. But I quite enjoy roller coasters, and even though it seems the metaphor I used for this academic year is sure to end in a crash, I’ll make it out alive.

This ain’t my first state test rodeo. It’s my second, and I still hate it with all my heart.

Wonderful time of the year, my ass.

Cheerio.

Tis, mate was the Weekly Email Blast, email 91. Happy weekend !!!
