Moshi moshi, mate!

That’s Japanese people’s telephone hello! I guess it works with emails too. Sounds sweet though, moshi moshi. I’m gonna use it for the remainder of the vacation. And did you read this WEB’s number right? It’s one-ten. Not one-one ten. I’ve made that mistake before.

Starts with an annoying correction, classic me. And speaking of classy, my birthday celebration last week, which I’d pegged to be awkward and cheesy, was not! I met my new classmates around sunset, for coffee and pizza. It was slightly more awkward than I thought. I think socializing requires constant practice, which I do not, hence the ice took a while to be broken. Then I had to leave for the bigger thing that my parents had planned at a hotel.

My parents insisted that my eighteenth have a nice celebration. So they invited relatives and family friends for a ‘party’. So I wasn’t excited except for the gifts. I was nervous and looking up social etiquettes, conversation starters and stuff on my phone during the hour I was stuck in traffic. But when I got to the banquet I saw a table with several presents on it; and hence proceeded to have a fun birthday (!?!).

Sorry about the me-charade. But I wanna tell you about my gifts. I got ties, cuff-links, watches, gift cards, cash etc which were the usual suspects. An unusual suspect was a pretty leather bound Bhagavad Gita. Solid gift but inconsiderate. I also got tickets to the Mumbai Indians game the next night. You know the Mumbai-Delhi match on Saturday where Mumbai batted terribly but then got Delhi 21 for 6? I was there! My parents say their gift to me is ~shipping~. I don’t know what it is but I’m very curious, they won’t even give me a hint (ಠ_ಠ).

Cheerio!

Hello, mate!

It’s the 111th day of the year, 21st April. The same day I was born in 1999. Which today, makes me an 18 year old. Which somehow, although I’m not totally sure, makes me an adult.

A frickin’ adult, that’s me. Legally. I’m very intrigued with the possibilities that this birthday presents me with. I can vote, drive, watch rated-R content, donate blood, and so much more. An 18th birthday seems more relevant than others, because it comes with an ‘adult’ tag (not that kind) along with at least a few grown up responsibilities.

I like grown up things like jobs and having to pay taxes. I like driving too but I’m not very good at it and I scratched the car across two doors so I’m giving driving a break for a few weeks. When I was little I thought adults had it all figured out but now that I am one (Sort of), I think most adults have no idea what’s going on and pretend everything is chill while only acting serious and responsible. Now I’ve always acted serious and responsible while having no idea what’s actually going on, so I’ve always kinda been an adult. Fingers crossed though.

I hope adult me is two inches taller and gets better at socializing. I can’t accelerate the first one but I have two social things lined up today, the second of which guarantees presents and cash. So I’ll go.

Speaking of go, I’m gonna stop typing now. I’ve got food to eat and gifts to receive. The two best things in every social situation.

And this will be the last Sam’s B’Day Blast email. The WEB will always continue but I don’t think a self-addressed email about my own birthday is a nice proposition. The WEB can handle all my future birthday whims and rants. So no more B’day Blast mails.

RIP ‘Sam’s Birthday Blast’, 2015-2017.

Cheerio!

Happy today, mate !

I’m at that stage of the vacation where I can’t tell what day of the week it is without checking. I know today’s Friday, because it’s WEB day and I know the date. But I think the lack of school, college or a job keeps me from dividing the week into workdays and weekends. It’s today, simply, and I’m glad it is.

In a weird turn of events(?) I have lost my ability to watch YouTube, Hotstar and Amazon prime videos lately. Don’t know why, it’s very unlike me to not be watching stuff. The last few times I’ve opened YouTube I’ve watched a couple videos, added some to Watch later and that was it. I haven’t used a lot of Hotstar or Amazon prime either, their subscriptions are wasting away. Thankfully, I’m just as good at watching TV and reading stuff so I’m not going bonkers anytime soon.

My brother turned 11 on Wednesday and I got him a set of Harry Potter books. He enjoyed the movies and finished the first book, so this makes for a nice present. Sadly he’s a Hufflepuff which is a massive letdown, which is not very surprising to me. Anyway the books ship by next Friday, (my eighteenth, slick) and hopefully he makes reading a habit. It’s a nice habit.

I spent a lot of 11th grade reading, which is not ideal. I went insane for a few weeks and read as many books as possible as quickly as possible. Not nice. If I was at college and free I was probably in the library. I said no to a lot of people about a lot of things. I was the No monster, something I remember from my 4th grade English Broadway. It was a poem in our reading book. Then slowly, I started saying no less and it wasn’t bad.

Use your nos wisely, mate. If you use them too often, people stop asking, and you don’t want that. That’s the last bit of wisdom you’ll get from a seventeen year old me.

Evening, mate!

Exclamation marks make things more exciting than they actually are. That’s why I use them in introductions. For a kickstart to the week’s blasts. I hope that exclamation revved you enough, yee-haw!

I’m a morning person now, I wake up at 9 and go to the gym. I still hate the place, but I’ve slowly eliminated things about it that made me anxious or annoyed. The gym is empty around 9, the morning trainer isn’t annoying and I use the equipment closest to the AC so less sweat. Everything was smooth until Wednesday, the day I began weight training.

See cardio can cause some exhaustion but weight training straight up causes pain. The dumbbells, the pull downy thing, the push uppy thing, the pull in front your face perpendicular to the ground thing : evil, all of them. It gets worse after you’re done. My coffee mug felt heavy, I couldn’t lift my arms above my shoulders without feeling an ouch. It’s been two days, but my tricep and pectoral muscles still hurt sometimes.

That was my weekly gym rant. Sorry you had to read it.

WrestleMania was nice. The show was cool, except The Undertaker’s retirement which was very : (  I always found the Undertaker relatable somehow, the fact that he hung up his boots was sad.

And the IPL is back. I say it’s too much cricket and everything but still catch parts of every match. It’s okay though, people get jobs and there’s a ton of money involved which is always great. I’m not super hyped but I’ll root for my hometown like always.

Summer’s Here!

Not because it’s insanely hot but because it’s WrestleMania weekend. WrestleMania marks the beginning of summer in India. And if you think the IPL means summer’s here, then you’re just a jabroni.

4:30 am IST on Monday is WrestleMania 33. The Ultimate thrill ride. If you’re not a WWE fan, you’re probably not very hyped about it. But lemme tell you, there is no event in sports entertainment as big as WrestleMania. There’s a reason it’s called the Showcase of the Immortals and the Grandest stage of them all. I even love the video packages that precede a match, they’re beautifully edited and set to awesome songs.

I discover a lot of songs because of WWE. I need music, and I really need music when I’m exercising. Gym is agony but music makes it better. I realised only some types of songs feel right when working out, most of them rock or metal songs, most of them Metallica, AC/DC and Motörhead. I only like *some* Metallica and Motörhead songs though. I recently started listening to Clean Bandit and Fall Out Boy, both of which are nice but the *some* songs rule applies. That’s because I rarely buy entire albums. I like some singles of each band or artist, and those are the ones I get. My iTunes playlist has 500 odd songs of all sorts, a number I’d like to see increase.

Tuesday was the two year anniversary of the WEB. And don’t trust anyone tomorrow, it’s the first day of April.

Vacation Update:

My Godfather poster is here, and it’s classy. I still have to figure out where to put it though.

I’m also painting a mural in my room. It’s Tintin and Snowy! I’ve only done Snowy so far. He’s quite big actually, 16 by 14 inches. But he’s still a quarter of the size of his pal Tintin, who’s gonna be 3 feet tall. I’ll paint it too, maybe. I’ll keep you updated.

Hello, mate!

Emphasis on hell, because that’s how hot it’s getting. And it’s supposed to touch 40 degrees over the weekend, geez. So stay indoors and crank up your AC.

I’ve been busy lately, which is a nice feeling. It helps me cope with the fact that I’m unemployed. I’ve been editing my college’s history magazine, for which I’m learning Corel Draw. It’s a little complicated but it’ll be nifty once I’m good. Graphic design is cool and I definitely wanna get better at it.

I’ve also actively avoided going to the gym. I like exercising in a way that avoids sweat. My trainer, however, keeps telling me to sweat it out. Around sunset there’s like a dozen people at the gym so I avoid that time. I figured the gym would be empty in the morning, meaning less people would be around when this inevitably happens to me.

But I literally cannot wake up early, no matter how hard I try. Fitness is a vicious cycle of trouble. Also, I fervently apologise for talking about the gym like stupid gym people do. Sorry.

Vacation update:

I got two posters for my room, one of The Simpsons and one from the first Godfather movie.

Cheerio.

Phew!

I’m done with the state tests mate. Done forever. I’m no longer a 12th grade student. I’m old now, yeah. And I am looking forward to about two months of summer holidays. So woohoo!

I finished my economics test on Wednesday, which now makes me an unemployed 17 year old who’ll be 18 in a little over a month. I like vacation though. I’ve a lot planned for me to do this summer. I got a gym subscription, not voluntarily and I intend to go there to get ‘fit’ and ‘active’. I’m not looking forward to that actually. I’m gonna learn driving, paint my room, and redecorate parts of my house. By redecorate I mean put up some nice movie posters and paintings on empty walls. There are a lot of prints, art hidden around my house but getting good movie posters is not easy. There aren’t many available, and boy are they expensive.

The thing I really want to do this summer is get a job. You know, employment. I want to be gainfully employed. See lots of people told me to intern, that’s nice but it doesn’t pay. I am very money minded, and I want to pay taxes as soon as I’m an adult. Sadly, the places I asked around won’t employ me unless I’m 18. So I’ll wait.

On a less me centric scale, go watch Beauty and the Beast, happy St. Patrick’s Day, happy world sleep day! Get lucky (he he he), and take a nap!

Greetings, mate.

Say hello to the third WEB on a Saturday. Today I got done with my psychology paper, and boy is that a relief.

I absolutely, positively hate psychology. And I say that after two years of studying the subject. It’s interesting, but then you realize it’s only the illegitimate step child of psychiatry, the actually useful, actually powerful science. The world needs to know more about mental health, and we should start with distinguishing between psychology and psychiatry.

Ranting is the kind of thing you’d do if you wrote a paper you don’t like for three straight hours. It was nice but good riddance. I’ve only one paper to go, economics, which I like. Wednesday is my last State test, and the last time I’ll have anything to do with the MSBSHSE. It’s the end of an underwhelming era.

I had serious end of an era feels while writing my English and French papers. Realizing that was the last time I’d deal with those in an academic capacity was quite something. It was the last time English would be the first test on the timetable. Of course, all this would be moot if I don’t pass.

God I hope I pass.

In awesome news, Shark Tank is back on TV! Shark Tank is my favorite television show. It’s got money, business-economics, and rich people and money. Everything I love. I started watching Shark Tank last summer, when Colors Infinity became a channel. I’ve seen every episode of every season, and I intend to do the same with season 7.

This will likely be the last email to be on a Saturday for now. I’m shifting back to Friday WEBs starting next week. So see ya Friday.

Cheerio.

Salut!

I said this WEB will be on a Saturday, and here you go. WEB 1 was the only other WEB to have the rare distinction of being sent on a Saturday. Isn’t that rad?

(It’s not, it’s meh)

I’ve spent many hours studying this week, for I’m right in the middle of State Tests II. I’m done with English, French and Political Science, and I’ve history, psychology and economics to go. I like that the timetable was arranged in an increasing order of difficulty. English is a piece of cake, French is a croissant, Pol. Sci. is donut, and so on. I reckon Psychology is a piece of licorice and economics is a green chilly. But don’t get me wrong, I like economics. Ooh and history would be pasta; good only when made right. Witty, eh?

(It’s not, it’s meh)

I write this as I head home after my Pol. Sci. test. It went nice. It was less pretty than I wanted it to be, but was solid. History, Psychology and Economics are spread across next Wednesday, Saturday and Wednesday. Nice and spaced out.

I haven’t checked Twitter, YouTube or the WWE Network in a week. Well 5 days. It’s bad but not as bad as I thought it’d be. I like that I have more time to read newspapers and take naps. I usually study a night before, but well. Like 11-4, really late. But luckily all but two of my tests are 3-6pm, so I can sleep late.

State Tests II have been less annoying than I pegged ’em to be. Maybe because I’m a State Test veteran. Because I’ve been there, done that.

(I’ve said State Tests too many times, shit).

Keep the good luck, mate.

Ahoy again, matey!I really need to come up with more ways to start the WEB. But you know what the number 101 reminds me of? Dalmatians!

Cute puppers, Dalmations. 101/100

The sequel to The Ordeal, (aka the State Tests) begins this Tuesday. Look, the Ordeal I wasn’t good at all, I don’t know why they wanted the Ordeal II: It gets worse. I like my subjects in general, except psychology (stupid psychology) and I don’t mind writing tests but for Tendulkar’s sake, why do I have to study from infernally shitty textbooks. I’ve heard in hell, the only books you get to read are State Board textbooks. I totally stand by my WEB #1 promise of getting exemplary authors and expert wordsmiths to write textbooks.

Look, I’m grumpy because I’ve been studying. It’s bad, I know. I’m gonna stop writing now. Just one thing: WEB 102 and 103 will stride into your inbox on Saturdays and not Fridays. That’s it.

Good luck, mate.
